State legislatures have been busy this year creating, debating, and enacting laws that both help and hinder our efforts. Several states have made significant improvements to their sex education programs by either rejecting federal funding for abstinence-only education or enacting new laws to ensure that students receive comprehensive sex education. Other states have passed laws meant to ensure women's contraceptive and reproductive rights such as the access to birth control and the right to privacy.

On the other side, several state legislatures have introduced or enacted laws that limit reproductive freedom such as near-total criminal abortion bans. Other states have enrolled or enacted legislation that denies state funding for family planning and abortion-related services. In addition, many states have introduced legislation to discourage abortions like measures that provide funds for alternatives to abortion and crisis pregnancy centers.
